MERLIN MOBILITY SELECTED AS 2021 WORLD CHANGING IDEA

Using autonomous vehicle technology to increase accessibility

Boulder, CO, May 4, 2021 — Merlin Mobility has been chosen by Fast Company as a World Changing Idea finalist in the transportation category. Merlin is an autonomous technology company with a mission to enable safe driving for all. The company’s first product, the Merlin Copilot, uses artificial intelligence, computer vision and sensor fusion to eliminate crashes due to driver error, automate driving tasks, and take over driving functions should a driver become incapacitated.

“Autonomous vehicle technology has the potential to save many of the 1.3 million lives lost on our roads each year, but there are many technical, regulatory and legal barriers that are currently preventing the benefits of this technology from being realized,” said Lawrence Williams, founder and CEO of Merlin Mobility. “Our unique, incremental approach to autonomy allows Merlin to get into the market quickly and put ourselves on a glide path to fully autonomous vehicles.” [1]

With the goals of awarding ingenuity and fostering innovation, the World Changing Ideas is one of Fast Company’s major annual awards programs and is focused on social good, seeking to elevate finished products and brave concepts that make the world better. A panel of eminent Fast Company editors and reporters selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 4,000 entries.

“There is no question our society and planet are facing deeply troubling times. So, it’s important to recognize organizations that are using their ingenuity, impact, design, scalability, and passion to solve these problems,” says Stephanie Mehta, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “Our journalists, under the leadership of senior editor Morgan Clendaniel, have discovered some of the most groundbreaking projects that have launched since the start of 2020.”
